Cube Notations

Cube notations for the 2x2!!

Single Layer Turn

Parts of a cube!

Up (U)

Down (D)

Right (R)

Left(L)

Front(F)

Back(B)

There are a total of 6 basic cube notations for the 2×2
3×3
rubix cube.

  • Up (U)Down (D)
  • Right (R) – Left (L)
  • Front(F) – Back (B)

Cube notations for the 3x3!!

Refer to the image source given below for a better understanding of the notations:

A single letter represents a 90-degree clockwise turn of that face. An apostrophe (e.g., U’) indicates a 90-degree counterclockwise turn, and a number 2 (e.g., U2) indicates a 180-degree turn.

Face Turn

The basic moves are Up, Down, Right, Left, Front,Back.

Each move means to turn that side clockwise,,as if you were facing that side.

Wide Moves

Wide moves turn 2 layers at onece. They can be written in 2 ways:
  • Lower case:u,d,r,l.f,b
  • Ending in W: Uw, Dw, Lw, Fw, Bw
  • Cube Rotations

Cube rotations are written as x,y,z.

    x follows the R directions, y follows the U direction,z follows the F direction

    Slice Moves

Slice moves are written as M, E, S, Slice moves only turn the middle layer.

    M follows the L directions, E follows the D direction,S follows the F direction

Cube notations for the Skewb Cube!!

    Structure

A Skewd consist of 8 corners and 6 square center pieces

    Corner Pieces

    Algorithm

    Single letter. Turn 120° clockwise
    Letter+ Turn 120 counterclockwise

    Solving Placement

Unlike solving placement of 3×3 which the face is in the front. solving a Skewb is to turn the corner and the skewb should be placed with corners facing you
